TURN YOUR IRA INTO A GIFT FOR GOOD

Thanks to the PATH Act, you can now transfer up to $108,000 from your IRA directly to your favorite charity—completely tax-free!

Read below for more info:

  • Who is eligible to make a charitable gift directly from their IRA?

Individuals who are 70½ years of age or older can transfer up to $108,000 of IRA assets each year directly to a qualified charity.

  • How much can I give from my IRA without it being counted as taxable income?

You can give up to $108,000 per year directly from your IRA to a charity, and that amount is not included in your taxable income.

  • Can my spouse also make a charitable gift from their IRA?

Yes! If your spouse has a separate IRA, they can also give up to $108,000. Together, a married couple can donate up to $216,000 in a single year.

  • Does a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) count toward my required minimum distribution (RMD)?

Yes. For individuals 70½ or older, a qualified charitable distribution can satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD).

  • How is giving directly from my IRA better than taking a distribution and donating the proceeds?

When you make a direct transfer from your IRA to a charity, the amount is excluded from your adjusted gross income. If you take a taxable distribution first and then donate the cash, the distribution increases your taxable income—potentially affecting your tax bracket and eligibility for other deductions or credits.

  • How does donating IRA assets affect my heirs?

By donating IRA assets to charity, your beneficiaries avoid paying taxes that would otherwise apply if they inherited your IRA funds.

  • What are the long-term benefits of making a charitable gift from my IRA?

Using IRA funds for charitable giving allows you to create a lasting legacy, provide meaningful support to your favorite non-profits, and enjoy significant tax advantages during your lifetime.
